WATCH: Benedict Rogers' Interview on EuroNews Tonight

Benedict Rogers, CEO of Hong Kong Watch, was interviewed on EuroNews Tonight on 11 November 2020 in response to the resignation of pro-democracy lawmakers in Hong Kong.

Benedict Rogers described the disqualification of four most moderate Hong Kong pro-democracy lawmakers and the resignation of all Hong Kong pro-democracy lawmakers which took place a week after China announced its five-year plan is the first step of China’s implementation to impose a comprehensive jurisdiction (a direct rule) over Hong Kong.

He also said “Beijing clearly wants to get rid of them [four pro-democracy lawmakers], it knew that the effect of disqualifying them would be that their colleagues would resign as they’ve done in solidarity and in protest, and it’s clear that it is part of Beijing’s attempt to tighten their grip on Hong Kong. One has to wonder what the next step will be. What would be the implications, for example, for the judiciary”.
