Sources of funding

Hong Kong Watch strives to ensure that our work is independent, provides thought leadership and can be sustained with healthy and sound financials. This is achieved by diversifying our funding sources.

The principal funding source for Hong Kong Watch is individual donations from the members of the public, making up 82 percent of the total income as of 31 December 2019. These donations are hugely important to support our work.

We receive grants from charitable foundations which made up for the rest of our funding.

Hong Kong Watch does not employ any professional fundraisers or commercial participators to carry out fundraising activities directly with the public. The organisation also does not have any fundraising carried out by third parties and therefore did not subscribe to any fundraising schemes or codes.

How we manage funds

Hong Kong Watch seeks to continuously strengthen our financial management systems to ensure that we are accountable to the public and our funders.

Financial procedures have been developed to monitor and evaluate the organisation’s finances. This includes monthly management accounts, which are prepared for review by Trustees during the Board meeting.

Below are our annual reports, which you can also see on the Charity Commission website.
