The Telegraph: Hong Kong leader urges teachers to monitor 'ideologies'
On 6 July 2021, Johnny Patterson, Policy Director of Hong Kong Watch was quoted in the Telegraph on the arrest of teenage students under the National Security Law in Hong Kong.
The report says Hong Kong police have arrested nine people, including six teenage students, on charges of planning a terrorist plot to attack courts and the public transport system with homemade bombs.
The suspects, the youngest of whom is 15, allegedly belong to a pro-independence group known as “Returning Valiant”. They were detained in a series of raids and face charges under the controversial new national security law for conspiring to organise terrorist activities.
Johnny Patterson said:
“Not content with just locking up political opponents and the media, Carrie Lam is now looking to purify thought in Hong Kong.”
