Hong Kong Watch meets with Canadian MPs and Senators to advocate the expansion and extension of the Open Work Permit scheme

Last week, our Chief Executive Benedict Rogers and Policy Advisor Katherine Leung met with MPs and Senators as well as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in Ottawa. They advocated the expansion and extension of the Open Work Permit scheme as the expiration date of the scheme in February 2023 nears.

MPs and Senators from all parties were supportive in extending the scheme past February 2023 and expanding the scheme to include Hongkongers who are currently excluded by the 5-year limit of Stream B. We would like to thank Jenny Kwan MP, Senator Ratna Omidvar, Sameer Zuberi MP, Heather McPherson MP, Senator Mary Coyle, Senator David Richards, Salma Zahid MP, Erin O’Toole MP, John McKay MP, Ziad Aboultaif MP and Senator Leo Housakos for their support.
