Hong Kong Watch Trustee Benedict Rogers addresses Hong Kongers at UK-Hong Kong Symposium

Hong Kong Watch was privileged to be part of the Steering Committee of the UK-Hong Kong Symposium 2025, which was held on 10 and 11 May.

On the first day of the Symposium, our Patron Tom Tugendhat MP delivered a keynote speech, where he shared his reflections on the growing Hong Konger community since the introduction of the BNO visa scheme, and its impact on the UK.

On the second day, our co-founder and Trustee Benedict Rogers gave a keynote speech addressing the challenges faced by the Hong Kong community and offering his insight into how the Hong Kong diaspora could maintain the momentum of the pro-democracy movement.

After the Symposium, the Steering Committee met with Members of Parliament, including our Patron Blair McDougall MP, as well as Luke Taylor MP and Bobby Dean MP, to discuss key takeaways from this year’s Symposium, the community’s plan going forward, and transnational repression.

Hong Kong Watch was delighted to serve on the Steering Committee of the Symposium. We applaud the hard work of everyone on the Steering Committee who worked tirelessly to organise this important two-day Symposium, and their dedication to bringing together Hong Kongers in the UK.
