Hong Kong Watch Canada joins Hong Kong Pathway seminar and celebrates Canada Day at HongKonger Community Centre Toronto

On Saturday 28 June, Hong Kong Watch Canada attended an event at the HongKonger Community Centre Toronto, where we participated in a seminar on the Hong Kong Pathway backlog issue and celebrated Canada Day with nearly 200 attendees.

The seminar was moderated by Aileen Calverley, Chair of Trustees of Hong Kong Watch and Director of the HongKonger Community Centre Toronto, and featured Shuvaloy Majumdar MP, Patron of Hong Kong Watch, Michael Ma MP, member of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, and Vincent Ho MP.

The MPs heard directly from Hong Kong Pathway applicants about what challenges they have faced due to the delays in processing permanent residency and open work permit applications. They promised to raise their cases with the Canadian government and press Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to proactively address the ongoing backlog. Aileen Calverley shared updates on discussions with an immigration policy advisor from the Prime Minister’s Office about possible solutions to the issue, including allocating admission targets under the economic category to the Hong Kong Pathway.

Hong Kong Watch would like to thank Shuvaloy Majumdar MP, Michael Ma MP and Vincent Ho MP for taking time to attend the event in support of the Hong Kong community in Canada.
