Hong Kong Watch hosts UK Youth Initiative workshop on strategic communications

On Saturday, as part of our UK Youth Initiative Programme, Hong Kong Watch hosted a workshop on strategic communications, which included media training.

We were joined by Hong Kong activist Chloe Cheung who shared her experience engaging with the media, government, and non-profit organisations. She also shared tips on improving social media presence and preparing for media interviews as a public advocate.

A second presentation was delivered by the Global Head of Communications at the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation, Elisha Maldonado. Elisha explained how to pitch media articles, draft opinion pieces, and conduct strategic outreach to journalists.

Following the presentations, our youth participants took part in mock journalist interviews and completed writing exercises to strengthen their abilities to advocate for policy change.

This workshop is part of a series of training in advocacy, public policy, and civic engagement in our UK Youth Initiative Programme. We are grateful for the contributions of our speakers and we look forward to continuing our efforts to build the knowledge and skills of our youth participants, and supporting their future advocacy and civic pursuits.
