Recap of Hong Kong Watch advocacy activities: May 2026

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Hong Kong Watch is able to sustain our international advocacy work for the Hong Kong community. This recap outlines our key activities in May 2026.

United Kingdom

  • Responded to the verdict of the HKETO trial in London, urging the UK government to take steps to address transnational repression and foreign interference

  • Published a survey briefing on transnational repression against the Hong Kong diaspora in the UK and prepared a two-pager on the briefing for policy-makers

Canada

  • Engaged with cross-party MPs ​​on our Hong Kong Pathway policy proposal, and met with Brad Redekopp MP and Costas Menegakis MP to discuss the proposal

  • Met with MPs’ offices to discuss collaboration on our Youth Initiative Program Canada

United States

  • Published a briefing on China’s war-proofing economy ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing

  • Led a joint statement from civil society organisations, urging President Trump to press President Xi Jinping on Jimmy Lai, bounties and sanctions

European Union

  • Spoke at an online panel on Hong Kong advocacy in the EU as part of the Hong Kong Fair in Malmö, Sweden
