Hong Kong Watch annual crowdfunding 2025

Hong Kong Watch is aiming to raise £50K to develop our international human rights work in the year to come. We invite you to join us as we continue to defend the freedom and rights of Hong Kongers around the world.

Our future plans

Hong Kong Watch strives for viable solutions to challenging problems. Looking ahead to 2026, your generous support could help us:

  • Fight for the retention of the ‘5+1’ pathway to citizenship for BNO Hong Kongers following the Immigration White Paper.

  • Fight for home fee status at all UK universities for BNOs.

  • Tackle transnational repression against the Hong Kong diaspora, including the withholding of Hong Kongers’ MPF savings.

  • Work with the British Parliament and government to fix the gap in the BNO visa scheme for Hong Kongers born before the 1997 handover.

  • Work with the Canadian Parliament and government to resolve the Hong Kong Pathway backlog issue.

  • Engage, educate and empower the Hong Kong diaspora through our civic and political engagement series, youth and grassroots training programmes, and community events.

  • Engage with private and business sectors to raise awareness of business risks posed by Hong Kong’s national security laws.

  • Inform the international community of our in-depth research on Hong Kong’s special privileges in law, and Hong Kong’s ‘patriotic education’ reforms.

  • Speak up for political prisoners in Hong Kong and ensure that governments continue to speak out about human rights abuse in Hong Kong.

Our achievements

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to achieve the following in 2025:

  • Worked with Canadian parliamentarians and government officials to expedite approvals for dozens of permanent residency, open work permit and study permit applications under the Hong Kong Pathway.

  • Conducted high-level meetings with US policy-makers, including White House officials, who asserted that the release of Jimmy Lai is a top priority.

  • Rallied a mass response to proposed changes to the Immigration Rules which might affect the BNO scheme, with a petition signed by over 34,000 Hong Kongers and articles in national news media.

  • Led and contributed to efforts to counter transnational repression and foreign interference, including by speaking at the G7 Dialogue on Transnational Repression, organising events in the UK Parliament with leading international human rights lawyers, and coordinating impactful joint letters.

  • Launched a groundbreaking new report on business and human rights and engaged with policy-makers in Washington DC, London and Brussels on legislative and regulatory solutions to the relevant issues.
