Hong Kong Watch expresses gratitude to Jean Yip MP for clarifying Hong Kong Pathway rumours

Hong Kong Watch expresses our sincere gratitude to Jean Yip MP for her prompt and decisive response regarding the recent rumours surrounding the Hong Kong Pathway.

Last week, Hong Kong Watch Canada became aware of circulating rumours suggesting that the IRCC might announce changes to the Hong Kong Pathway, potentially shortening the deadline to October 3, 2025, as opposed to the previously stated August 2026. In light of our ongoing communication with the Minister of Immigration concerning the backlog, we initially considered these rumours to be unfounded. However, recognising the anxiety and uncertainty they caused within the Hong Kong community, Hong Kong Watch’s co-founder and Chair of Trustees Aileen Calverley sought clarification from Jean Yip MP.

Within one hour, Jean Yip MP conducted internal inquiries and confirmed that there were no policy changes regarding the Hong Kong Pathway. Hong Kong Watch shared the information with the press and on social media, and informed them of an imminent official statement from Jean Yip MP to clear the rumours. This not only alleviated concerns, but also allowed us to disseminate accurate information through various media channels and social media platforms.

Additionally, Aileen Calverley, alongside Director of the HongKonger Community Centre Toronto Jenny Wong, met Jean Yip MP at the Imperial Ball hosted by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto over the weekend. During this event, she reaffirmed her commitment to standing in solidarity with the people of Hong Kong.

Thank you once again, Jean Yip MP, for your decisive action in addressing the rumours. Your leadership and unwavering support for the Hong Kong community are greatly appreciated.
