Hong Kong Watch hosts US Youth Initiative training conference in Washington, DC
In the past two weeks, our 2026 US Youth Initiative Program participants traveled from California, Boston, Texas, New York, and across the United States to Washington, DC for an immersive experience in the American political system. For many, it was their first opportunity to step inside the institutions they had learned about and meet the people working within them.
Through our training sessions, participants learned about the different roles and functions of the executive and legislative branches, as well as advocacy skills and how young people can engage effectively in the democratic process.
They then put that learning into practice through meetings with Members of Congress, the Department of State, the House Select Committee on China, and the Hudson Institute.
For many participants, the experience was truly eye-opening. Some are now considering future careers in congressional offices or think tanks, while others are inspired to bring what they have learned back to their communities and contribute to the Hong Kong diaspora.
We are proud of our young participants’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning. Their journey is just beginning.
We hope the Hong Kong diaspora community will continue to support our Youth Initiative Program and work together with us to create more opportunities for the next generation. By investing in our young people and connecting them with our community, we can help them grow, contribute, and give back to the communities they call home.
Together, we can build a stronger, more connected, and more engaged Hong Kong community in the United States.
香港監察舉辦「美國青年政治參與計劃」華盛頓培訓大會
過去兩週，香港監察2026年度「美國青年政治參與計劃」學員遠道從加州、波士頓、德州、紐約等美國各地前往華盛頓，親身體驗學習美國政治體系。對很多參加者來說，這是他們第一次有機會進入課堂上學過的機構，並會見在內部工作的人。
透過培訓課節，學員了解到行政和立法機關的不同角色和職能，並學習到倡議技巧和年輕人有效參與民主進程的方法。
然後，他們透過會見國會議員、國務院、眾議院中國問題特設委員會和哈德遜研究所（Hudson Institute）代表，實踐所學。
今次經驗令很多參加者大開眼界。有些學員正考慮未來在國會議員辦事處或智庫工作，有些則受到啟發，期望將所聞所學帶回社區，貢獻離散港人社群。
我們為年輕學員的好奇、熱情和對學習的投入感到自豪，他們的旅程才剛開始。
我們希望離散港人社群繼續支持香港監察「青年政治參與計劃」，並與我們攜手為下一代創造更多機會。透過投資年輕人並與社區建立連結，我們能夠幫助他們成長、貢獻並回饋他們稱之為家的社區。
