29 human rights and diaspora groups issue open letter to Xi Jinping ahead of Washington, DC visit

On 16 September, Hong Kong Watch joined a coalition of 29 human rights and Hong Kong, Tibetan and Uyghur diaspora groups in issuing an open letter to Xi Jinping ahead of his visit to Washington, DC this month.

The open letter highlighted the human rights violations perpetrated by the People’s Republic of China, including the introduction of the Ethnic Unity and Progress Law which targets Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, and other ethnic groups, and the use of collective punishment to silence dissidents outside of China.

Signatories called for the immediate and unconditional release of prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders, the repeal of laws in breach of China’s international human rights obligation including the 2020 Hong Kong National Security Law, and an end to transnational repression.

9月16日，香港監察等29個人權組織及香港、藏族和維吾爾族離散族群團體趁中國國家主席習近平本月出訪華盛頓前，向他發出公開信。

公開信重點指出中國侵犯人權的行為，包括推行旨在打壓香港人、藏族、維吾爾族及其他少數民族的《民族團結進步促進法》，以及利用連坐手段壓制境外異見人士。

聯署組織呼籲習近平立即無條件釋放良心犯和人權捍衛者，廢除違反中國國際人權義務的法律，包括香港2020年《國家安全法》，並停止跨國鎮壓行為。
