Hong Kong Watch concludes visit to Washington, DC

In the past two weeks, Hong Kong Watch visited Washington, DC to strengthen relationships with policymakers and community leaders in the US.

During this visit, our Policy Director Megan Khoo, Policy and Strategy Advisor Ray Wong, and Canada Chair Aileen Calverley met with Representative Jim McGovern (D-MA), as well as the congressional offices of Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Rick Scott (R-FL), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Cornyn (R-TX), Dave McCormick (R-PA), Representatives John Moolenaar (R-MI), Rob Wittman (R-VA), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), James Walkinshaw (D-VA), Ami Bera (D-CA), Johnny Olszewski (D-MD), and Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA).

In addition, our team engaged with officials in the Department of State, Congressional-Executive Commission on China, and US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. We also held meetings with think tanks and community groups.

Our discussions covered important issues on US-China relations and Hong Kong, including China’s monopoly on critical minerals. Specifically, we presented our new briefing on the issue, From Industrial Policy to Coercion: US exposure to China’s rare earth dominance.

Hong Kong Watch thanks those in the US Congress, administration, and civil society for taking the time to meet with our team. We look forward to continuing our work in supporting the people of Hong Kong and defending democratic values.

香港監察訪華府會見美國國會、政府、民間社會代表

過去兩週，香港監察到訪華盛頓，務求加強與美國政策制訂者和社區領袖的關係。
